Chase and me got up bright and early this morning for the trout opener only to be greeted by thunderstorms moving in. Nice job again local weather people! Anyhow....we waited til around noon and it looked like the storms had passed so we went over to the Island Pit. There was quite a few already there, but we were able to stake a small claim of shoreline to fish. The bite was a little slow at first with winds out of the east, but it moved to a southerly wind and the bite picked up a bit. It looked like pretty much everyone was getting there limits or close to it. It took us about 3 hours with the hot bait being a 1/32oz rooster tail in yellow. We also caught a few on a orange rooster tail and 1 or 2 on a nightcrawler. There was some young fellas next to us catching some nice ones on orange salmon eggs fishing the bottom out in the deep. Spainy79 showed up when we needed 1 more fish for our limits. He had a couple hits before we left. It was so cloudy when we went that I forgot the sunscreen and we got burnt up pretty good. Oh.....and if Chase could have connected on HALF his hits we could have limited in HALF the time! We shot some video but I haven't even looked at it yet. It's so crazy getting these things in on ultralights that it's hard to video at the same time. They were running bigger this year...all around 11-12 inches.

I landed one about 5 minutes after you guys left. It really slowed down after that but I stuck with it. Kept getting hits here and there but only landed 2 for the day. One was 10" and the other was just shy of 12". Thanks to the sun I now have a farmers tan. Oh yeah, at one point I seen something floating in the water so I investigated and found this.

Glad you got a couple Lee. That little bluegill looks like the one I caught earlier in the day that was hooked pretty deep. I bet it didn't make it and the turtles made a snack of it. Chase caught a big ol' painted turtle out there(on video.)

Wasn't the trout stamp cheaper last year? I thought about going back out there this evening but I had some other things to do. Maybe tomorrow if it isn't raining.
