I saw a picture of a nice bass someone caught around Linton. They bought their rig at Spurlin's. I also know you can buy them at Wal Mart now as well.

I was thinking about buying one and trolling with it. I think that would be the best way to fish this bait.

The umbrella rig has been used for years by saltwater fisherman trolling for stripers and blues off the east coast. In more recent years the inland striper fiseherman have been using them. We bought some when we started targeting striped bass a few years ago... www.cnksaltwatertackle.com/home.html These things are big, heavy, and sturdy to get down deep where the big ones go during the warmer months(even though I notice C&K is making smaller versions now). They were made for trolling. The newer "castable" or "Alabama" umbrella rigs use less weight and lighter wire than the originals and could be used either way I suppose. Companies are already making them even smaller to target crappie... thumpbaits.com/Crappie_Umbrella_Rig/default13.htmlI don't think I'll be investing much money in these things until I see how the state is gonna rule on them for next year. I think we'll probably only be able to use one bait with hooks on the rig, which is how we use the big umbrella rigs for stripers. Just my opinion.

Yeah I was only gonna buy one for crappie and probably two for bass. I seen the crappie rig at the Indy sport show, only one vendor had them and the others said they would have them shortly. I believe Indiana will probably allow them next year, but who knows for sure.
