Anyone own any AR type rifles.. I really like the feel of them and they shoot very well. I was thinking of purchasing one for a varmint rifle. I have a brand new Savage .223 that gets the job done, but I just think the AR's are fun to shoot and I like to customize so it would be great for me with all the options. Im looking at DPMS right now, if anyone else has suggestions that would be great.

My good buddy built his own 5.56 AR and it is a really slick gun. Accurate and fast. I prefer bolt actions though. What kind of Savage .223 do you have? I bought a Savage FCP-K .223 recently and absolutely love it.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to AR type rifles. Buy them complete or build yourself. All the different calibers you can get them in. After market parts. I own one that could be used for varmint hunting. It's basically a "mutt" gun. Rock River lower, lpk and a DPMS 20" bull barrell upper. Pics are in my thread just a couple down from this one. Most recent are near the end of the thread. Built up the latest one in January. I have not yet taken it out to shoot it.

My Savage is the American Classic, with the wood stock. I have only shot like 15 round through it. lol, its a good shooting gun and I like it, but I just something else in my arsenal. In other words I guess you could say I am getting bored with what I got and want something new to play with.
I was looking into building my own, but since I dont know much about them YET, I thought about just buying my first one all together and when I get to know the gun a little better maybe I could build my next one..

It's not as bad as you think. I walked right into it blindly and built up my first one with no issues. Mind you this is assembling the lower receiver and not the upper. The upper usually requires special tools and what not for assembly. The 2 I have I purchased complete uppers for them. For the lowers all you need are duct tape, vice grips, a small hammer and a couple other basic tools. Youtube is your friend. Even though the vids that are available usually show people using a vice I built both lowers without one. It is a little more difficult this way but it can be done.

The Brownells gun supply website has extremely detailed and well made videos on how to build an AR from parts. Like Spainy said, that is with a fully assembled upper.

nice gun fmj. Ill have to look into them. I am going to a gun show in Indy the beginning of June so I will see what I can find there. www.slickguns.com/product/palmetto-state-armory-16-m4a1-carbine$599.99?!!? That right there is a KILLER deal...i would jump on it with both feet....i am NOT happy as it is a lot less than what i paid for mine. Slick guns was running a free shipping thing this weekend....sorry, day late and a dollar short on my end to help you there. But still, even with shipping and FFL transfer you will be money WAY ahead of the Indy 1500. I went to the show back St Pattys day weekend....Not a deal to be found on AR's. Even the DPMS guns on display were much more than what i paid for my PSA...and you have to factor in TAX at the show.
