Chase and me hit Monroe early this morning to try and boat a couple walleye. We were on the water at 3:30 trolling cranks in 10-15 fow. Didn't catch a darn thing. At first light we switched to jig 'n crawler and immediately started catching fish, but they weren't what we were after. Caught at least a dozen small wipers(around 12 inch) and can't even guess how many little yellow bass. No walleye and not even a catfish. We did catch some crappie but they were pretty small too. We finally gave up about 11:00 when we ran out of bait. We did get to see something pretty cool; right around dusk we heard a commotion going on maybe 50 yards away and it was a wiper feeding frenzy, busting shad at the surface. Some of the topwater hits were so hard it was spraying water about 6 foot in the air! I hurried up and tied on a zara spook as Chase moved us closer. I had a couple big swirls at it, but nothing ate it. Had a nice surprise back at the ramp. Evidently my truck made a perfect roost for the seagulls and the dang things turned my blue truck white.
