I need some advice from an experienced angler(s). Im only 26 and love to fish only one problem never really had any advice passed along to me. I fish almost every night for catfish but havent caught any big fish at all. Im using liver never fake bait. I fish White Oaks Glendale, Green Sullivan Fwa. I didnt know if there might be a better bait or maybe even a better public fishing area around to choose. Any and all advice would be GREATLY appreciated thanks alot.

Try using live bait. My experience, liver catches relatively small cats. Bluegill works really good for me.

Justin is right. Liver is a great bait, for relatively smaller cats like Channels. If you want big Flats, use Live bait. If you want Big Blues, use cut bait.

If you can get to the river, that be one of the best place for BIG cats,on the river try shad guts or for even bigger fish try skip-jack for blues, for flats, go wth live bait as bulegill, blue gill cought right on the river works best if not go get some from a pond & i all so use live glod fish that is big glod fish, for channles well they dont get to big roundhere but dip bait will bring them in fast,

Have you ever tried Kimmel Park on the Wabash there in Vincennes for bank fishing? I've never been, but I've checked it out on google earth before and it looks like some good spots. If I was fishing for catfish in the spots you mentioned I'd try fresh shrimp about 2 or 3 feet below a bobber. For night fishing you could get a lighted bobber or put some reflective tape on a bobber. Good luck and welcome to the Braggin Board!

Ive fished Kimmel park alot but only with liver. Ive never even tried bluegill or any of the other baits that you mentioned. Should i lip hook or body hook bluegill and should i use a large bluegill is it the bigger the bait the bigger the fish type of situation. Now im really excited for the current to calm down on the river so i can try this out. By the way thanks for all the response its always nice to talk to local fisherman.

Cut bluegill (HEADS ONLY) seems to entice larger channels. But on some rivers bluegill is illegal to use 4 bait

I can't say that goldfish do or don't work. Guessing they do if people suggest them. I like fishing so much that if I use live bait, I like to catch bluegill on a fly rod or ultra light. Best way to find out what works, take all the bits suggested and take few that you might think will work. I still like bluegill the best. Good luck

I have used goldfish and had luck. No more than bluegill though. You can get goldfish for bait at Gander mountain. Last I checked they were about $5 for a dozen good sized ones.
