Last night Chase was looking over my shoulder as I was cruisin' craigslist looking at boats. After looking at several different cities, I told Chase about Louisville having a bunch of river jons for sale. I click on Louisville Boats and there's a new listing that catches my eye...
16ft JOHN BOAT AND TRAILER WITH 1986 EVINRUDE MOTOR THAT RUNS GREAT, HAS STICK STEERING, 40lbs MINN KOTA FOOT CONTROLLED TROLLING MOTOR, FRONT AND REAR RUNNING LIGHTS, LIVE WELL, 4 ROD HOLDERS FOR TROLLING, NEW PARTS LAST YEAR, DEEP CYCLE TROLLING BATTERY, ALL NEW GREEN CARPET, NEW CAMO SEATS, NEW TRAILER LIGHTS, NEW RIMS AND TIRES, NEW PROP FOR MOTOR WHICH WAS $156.00, NEW TREATED PLYWOOD FLOOR, NEW CASTING DECK, BOAT RUNS GREAT, COULD USE A LITTLE PAINT. MT WASHINGTON, KY$800.00
Chase and me look at each other and he says "CALL!" I grab the phone and have to leave a message. The guy calls right back and says his phone's ringing off the hook and his emails full about the boat. We talk a little and I tell him that's exactly what we're looking for, when can I pick it up? He says he's not gonna hold it, just whoever shows up first with the money, so I say how about tonight then? Next thing you know I'm heading south through the hills of southern Indiana. After a 7 hour round trip I pulled back in the driveway at 2:30 this morning with our "new" boat.
The guy was really nice and used the boat for the same stuff we will; fishing, hunting, and bowfishing. He put the rod holders on last year to learn how to troll for walleye and had so much fun doing it that he had to get a bigger boat. He fired up the motor for me and showed me that everything else worked. The ad said "stick steering" and I figured it meant tiller, but it actually is a stick, with electric start and the throttle located in the center of the boat. That should work out great for hunting those "flying carp!" It trailerd great, so I won't be afraid to pull it anywhere. It won't win any beauty contests, but that's fine by me. My BASS Tracker was so nice that I didn't want to get it dirty, this one will look good with some mud, blood, and guts on it!
This has everything I was looking for except a fishfinder, but that actually works in my favor; now I can get a lowrance or humminbird to use on the boat AND ice. I'm gonna go look it over better and take some more pics. For 800 bucks, I couldn't pass it up! Hopefully I'll have it all legal before the Turtle Creek Open next month.
