I just realized I hadn't posted up my kills for the year. Nothing real special just meat in the freezer. The week I was on vacation I bow hunted it hard but nothing was tagged. I had one good chance to take an 8 pointer but I thought about it too long and he got to walk. Jump ahead to the opening day of firearm around 8:30 and a doe comes in straight at me. I pull the gun up and look through the scope and she was partially hid behind a tree. As I pull away from the scope to take another look I see another doe (yearling) that is just a few yards closer and is broadside. Put the crosshairs on her and sent a .44 Leverevolution round through her heart. About an hour passes and I hear a gun shot close to me. Turns out my nephew put down the 8 pointer that got to walk from me.
That night I took a shot at another doe but grazed her. Found hair but no blood. Monday morning rolls around and me and the bro-in-law hit a buddy stand on my uncles property. We were there maybe 10 minutes and called in another doe but we let her walk thinking something might come in behind her. About 200 yards away another property owner was getting ready to do some excavator work and once he fired it up that doe came back. The BIL said "Take her down"; no problem. Got a lung shot on her. We let some time pass and nothing else showed up. We go find my deer and it turns out to be a button buck.
The day after Thanksgiving rolls around and it looks like this will be my last time to gun hunt. Got in the woods around 2. Grunted in a 6 pointer around 4:30 but I could not make myself take the shot. He was a good, healthy deer but not much for antlers. I sure hope he makes it to next year.
Right now work is brutal. Plenty of OT just no time for anything else. I still got the archery tag and am patiently awaiting our shutdown period the last week of the month.
