Been hunting for over 30 years and addicted to whitetails and everything associated with them for as long. But this is the first i have ever seen this. My buddy dropped what he thought was a doe YESTERDAY...we walked up on it and i said, "thats not a doe!" he says, sure it is, no antlers." i picked up the hind leg and showed him the "boy parts". The dern deer had already shed!!! Before Dec 11!!!! I would love to hear if anyone has ever seen this before. (meaning encountering a deer that had shed this early) I would also love to hear thoughts, ideas, etc as to why.

That's crazy!! I've never hear of one dropping them that early. Here's one last year that still had his horns late Feb.

I have heard of em being loose when killed. I have also heard stories (who knows if they are true) of guys pulling deer out by the antlers and they coming off during the drag (which kept them out of P&Y).

I would say it has something to do with nutrition then anything.

My opinion is that through lack of nutrition to improve strength they were knocked off while sparring and or rubbing. The good news is that it can still be tagged as a doe based on state regs of not having at least one antler 3" long. A few years ago I shot a "doe" in archery season about a week before shotgun season opened that turned out to be a buck. It was broken off clean on one side and had about 1 1/2" of rack sticking up on other side.

2 weeks ago, at Deer Camp we had a guy shoot a 165" class buck and when we got to the end of the blood trail a 200lb antlerless deer layed there. We had to back track one shed was where he shot it, the other was about 200 yds away(he didn't get a good hit on it). When we checked it in, the check station told us that 4 others had already been checked in the same way or with just one having shed off. The buck he shot was aged at 7.5yrs so it is understandable that he would drop them early as the older deer do drop first. But it is a little early. Some say its a sign of a bad winter to come for the deer. My brother holding the sheds on a yearling
