Monty and Sam headed down today after letting them know about the deer I saw yesterday. I slept in and got a text that said Sam missed a doe. But when they checked for blood there were puddles of blood. They came back and got some breakfast and we headed back out to recover it. There was a good blood trail for almost 300 yds and it stopped. We would only find tiny drops every 10 yards or so and lost it. I've never seen a deer lose so much blood and not be able to find it. After looking at the video the slug clips the bottom of the chest. That evening Monty was wanting to split up so I offered to sit with Sam in the buddy stand. We sat their until last light and I spotted a little doe about 30 yards away. It came within 10 yds in front of us and finally stepped out from behind a downed tree and Sam smoked her!! The deer went about 30 yds and piled up. After getting down going to her, "she" ended up being a "he". Oh well, nothing like whacking one the last minutes of season! Congrats to Sam on his first buck!! This is the second time Sam has hunted without his Dad and both time he has shot a deer. Sorry Monty. :-XThe footage isn't that great since it was so dark but we'll try to put something together.
