(Versailles, IN) - A 14-year-old local boy who is battling cancer has an inspirational story to tell.
"It sounded like a bulldozer coming through the woods," Jeremy Eaton said about the moments leading up to his shooting of a possible record-breaking 24-point buck.
The Versailles teen snagged the deer while hunting with his father on Sunday in some Ripley County woods. The Best Buy Grocery in Cross Plains, where Eaton took the deer for processing, confirmed that it may be one of the biggest racks seen in southeast Indiana in several years.
Eaton says the deer was actually kind of small for having such a large rack at 185 pounds. A 24-pointer would usually weigh over 200 pounds.
The next day, Eaton was back in the hospital getting treatment for his cancer in the form of T-cell lymphoma.
"On Tuesday I just got back from the hospital. I had to go in on Monday after I killed the deer on Sunday," he said adding that he hopes to go out hunting again this week.
Eagle News has contacted Indiana Department of Natural Resources conservation officers to see if they can confirm whether or not the buck is a record breaker or maybe the largest claimed in the state so far this year.
