.......on me. After our fantasy football draft this evening I decided to grab a cold one and head to the pond to try and catch a catfish for the Outdoorsman competition. For bait I grabbed a slice of garlic bologna and since Chase's open face was already carolina rigged with a circle hook, I brought it. I cast it out and leaned the rod against the end of our dock and put the butt end down in a concrete block. Dad walked down and I was talking to him and BAM! The rods bending. I go to grab it and it pops out of the block and over the dock. I run around the dock and into the pond only to see the rod flying under water into the deep........ I tied some big hooks and sinkers on my pole and tried to snag the line, but never did. This is the 3rd rod I've had go in this year and it's never happened before in all the years I've fished the pond. Must have something to do with those channels we stocked from Turtle Creek and the 300lbs of food Dad has fed them this summer. I was able to recover the other 2 that went in and hopefully I can go back in the morning and snag it. If not, Chase will be picking out a new one. It was a $30 shimano open face reel, a $30 bass pro rod, and it had spider wire on it. I think I'll be having catfish for supper sometime this week.

I can relate Troy. It sucks losing gear in the drink. Especially if you just bought a new lure and snag it. I hate buying more expensive lures for that reason. lol

Ya one time i cast a lure out into raccoon lake and it came right off and sank into the water, apparently i hadn't tied it on tight enough.

Update! I was able to snag the line using a combination of sinkers and hooks trailed by a Fuzzy Duzzit musky bait. Weird thing is that I snagged a decent bass on my 3rd cast. He got off at the dock, that was before I added the Fuzzy or he probably would have been impaled. Bad part is that the rod is down in weeds and I pulled in all the line and the backing broke off. Now I gotta go in after it. It's in a fairly shallow area, probably up to my armpits, so it shouldn't be a problem except that I seen a HUGE water snake in this same spot yesterday while weed eating. I recovered the circle hook, so the fish was able to break loose. I'm gonna put some old shorts on and head that way........

No new rod & reel for Chase! (Sorry Chase.) Took a little longer than expected, about 15 minutes, but I finally stepped on it in the weeds. No visit from the snake, or the big snapper that's in there. I've already got it cleaned up, now Chase just needs to pick out some new line. Now I smell like the bottom of a pond and need a shower.
