If you mean during the youth season, if your like 16 and you don't hunt with an adult, i don't think its a big deal.

It is not considered poaching PERSAY, IF you are a youth, you are (From my understanding of IN>DNR REGS) required to not only posses and carry on your person a valid YOUTH hunting liscense, but are also required to be accompanied by an adult. The said adult does not need to posess a hunting liscense while in the field with the youth. I would say Have someone with you, just to be legal, Most C.O.'s prob wont say anything to you unless you are doing something really wrong, or are obviously too young to be by yourself in the woods with a weapon.(Like TODDLER YOUNG) If you cant get an adult to go with you, Bring a friend atleast. Hunting alone is nice because you only have to worry about your self, but hunting with a friend is nicer because atleast someone knows where you are.

I guess it would only be "poaching" if you kill something. Chase has wanted to go by himself before during youth and I wouldn't let him. Better safe than sorry. You don't want to end up like Uncle Ted. Here's what the regs say: Youth deer hunting season is Sept. 25 - 26, 2010. Youth, age 17 or younger, on the date of the hunt and accompanied by an adult of at least 18 years of age, can take a deer of either sex during this special youth deer season. If the youth hunter takes an antlered deer during this season, they may not take another antlered deer during the regular archery, firearm, or muzzleloader seasons.
The youth hunter must possess a valid hunting license (youth or deer), but the ac companying adult does not need to possess a hunting license while in the field with the youth hunter. The youth hunter must comply with all deer hunting regulations; including tagging the deer and checking it in to a deer check station within 48 hours of the take.
The youth hunter and accompanying adult must wear hunter orange. The youth hunter may use a legal firearm, bow and arrow, or crossbow, to take the deer, but may possess only one type of equipment to take a deer while in the field. The accompanying adult cannot take a deer and may not possess a firearm, muzzleloader, bow and arrow or crossbow while in the field with the youth hunter.

When i killed a button buck on the youth season 2 years ago, at my taxidermist who is also a checking station, didn't asked me if i had an accompanying adult (i did) or anything so i don't think they would find out. But rules are rules so you should follow them.
Also, what happened to ted nugent lol

Poaching - failure to comply with regulations for legal harvest, resulting in the illegal taking of wildlife that would otherwise be allowable.
Technically, it would be poaching. But I doubt any CO would say anything, especially when you can't get an adult to go with you. If someone 17 or under has a license I think they should be able to go in youth season without an adult. But the rules are what they are, at least it's not antler less only now.

Well Frenchy, are you willing to lose your hunting rights for the rest of your life over a weekend? If so go for it, if not better stay home because they could try and make an example out of you.
The way the law is worded to me, it says you have to have an adult with you or they are not in season for you. Killing any animal unlawfully is poaching, especially when you have voided the agreements of the season, that is hunting out of season. This question is no different than saying is it poaching if I take my shotgun during Archery season, is it?
I think every CO will say something, CO's are great people when you are on the right side of the law, being without an adult would be on the wrong side and you don't wanna be there, I have seen plenty who were.

What if you go hunting and harvest the new Indiana state record or world record buck? Are you going to be able to live with yourself, knowing that you just bent the rules a little bit or cheated. A SPORTSMEN does not bend the rules. Ask yourself are you a sportsmen?
I did not vote on this subject because I feel that this is a decision you will have to make on your own.

Well frenchy I'm just trying to help you with making a decision since it seems like your no responsible enough to make a grow MAN'S decision on your own. An you need influence from other people to still tell you what to do in your childhood. Because if everyone on this web site said it's not poaching,I bet you would go hunting without you adult super vision. You are still a follower not a leader bud.

you break the rules and get caught you pay the price, why take the chance, youth or not, remember, every time a Sportsman/woman gets caught violating the hunting/fishing laws it looks bad on all of us, thanks uncle Ted.
