bcamp is correct, Indiana has three bass, the Largemouth (corner of jaw BEHIND the eye when mouth shut) , Spotted Bass aka. Kentucky Bass, Middle Mouth, and a whole bunch of other names( Corner of the jaw AT the eye) and of course the Smallmouth (Corner of the jaw IN FRONT of the eye) Thats how you tell em apart and the same way a CO will tell them apart in a fish kill situation when the fish have lost there color and are all white.
Spot Bass put up a great fight, I am not sure if they are a true hybrid cross between a largemouth and smallmouth, because they do breed but it surely can happen. In Ky where some of my family live its just about the only kind of bass they have. I believe they can breed with smallmouth and largemouth though but they will keep the jaw location. Those are some nice fish, hit the waters in the spring and early summer for some bigger ones.

posiedon is right you need to check the corner of the jaw with its mouth closed and that should tell you.

I have allways agreed they are spotted bass, thanks for the reassurance guys. As far as inter breeding goes, i don't believe they are a lareg/small mouth hybrid, but i do know that when the Small mouth and the Spotted bass Breed togeather, they are known as a "MEAN MOUTH" and MAN O MAN DO I WANT ONE!!! Heres some pics of the MEAN MOUTH BASS
