Chase and me are planning on fishing a local bass tournament Saturday morning. This will be our first time fishing a tourney together. I've fished a few at Shakamak years ago, but it's been a LONG time. Here's the details if anyone else is interested; What: Hillenbrand Bass Tourney - 2 people per boat, $20 entry fee, $1 per person big bass. 5 bass limit. Where: Hillenbrand Fish & Wildlife Area off of State Road 59 between Linton and Jasonville, Indiana. Check-in is at the east check-in booth. You may fish on any of the Hillenbrand pits. Map: www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/files/hillen.pdfWhen: Check-in is Saturday(July 17th) at 5:30 am, fishing will take place from 6-11am. I just found out about this or I would have posted sooner.

We pre-fished some pits this morning. I hope this isn't any indication on how things are gonna go tomorrow!!

is it artificial baits only for the tourney? Yep, at least I assume so. They're running it like your basic bass tourney. It's off to bed now.....4:30 am will be here soon.

Well, if it was a "Who can catch the most 12 inchers" tourney, we might have had a chance! We didn't catch one keeper. I had one that if you pinched the tail enough, MIGHT have been 14 inches. There was only 15 boats showed up, probably due to storms in the area. We had nice weather the whole time though, other than being hot. The winning team had 10.8 lbs and the big bass was 3.4 lbs. We finally figured them out with less than an hour to fish. The bass were directly under the weed beds. We were fishing all around the weeds and not catching anything, finally I took the weight off and fished a 10.5" worm directly over the beds and the bass would suck it under. I was having trouble getting hook-ups, so I switched to a brush hog and started catching them. You had to drag the bait over the middle of the bed, they just weren't around the edges. Unfortunately, it was too little too late for us.

I was always told that ever worst day of fishing is still better than a good day at work! I'am sure you'll get them next time.

theres something about fishing in a tourney that gets your blood pumping. its that intensity of competition. looks like it was still pretty fun.

Which pits did you fish? I know a couple of them are full of 10-12 inch bass but I also know of a couple that have pretty decent average sizes.
