i prefer using the sticks because they're lighter and i think they're easier to use.

I have 2 different sets of climbing sticks and really like them. I have a set like you posted, but prefer the double stepped sticks. I've stepped off into air a few times on the others. My double stepped sticks are Big Dog and I bought them at Menards a few years ago. bigdogtreestands.com/climbingsticks.html

i have the guidegears and i love them. i use them with a little lock on, and its one of my favorite stands. they conseal really well, and if you leave them in one place long enough, vines will grow on them and hide them even better from the watchfull eyes of deer and would be thieves.

I will have to agree with Troy, sometimes you just need the step on the other side of the climbing stick. And I have not seen a climbing stick come with a descent set of tie downs or racket straps yet. Usually they come with pull tight straps(that I can never get tight enough) or with just rope. So I always buy a separate set of racket straps in camo or black.

Jawbusters is right, they just come with the cheapo pull tight straps.
