which river you goin to? as far as bait goes, if your fishin for channel cats, use chicken livers you really cant beat em. if your goin for flatheads use something live. i preferr bluegills. After big blues? I've heard to use cut bait, but i dont get to go after big blues much, so i aint sure what to use. Good Luck and Hope you catch a bunch!!

I like having at least one rod out with worms or nightcrawlers, 'cause ya never know what'cha gonna get. I've caught channel cats, drum, buffalo, sturgeon, bass, just about everything using worms in the river.

I am with you Troy, I love using nightcrawlers, my biggest flathead was caught on nightcrawler as well as a very big rare night time smallie. A crawler is the most versatile river bait there is. For targeting nothing but catfish, I prefer using what the water gives me. Best case scenario shad to be used cut up. Even flatheads will hit the fresh stuff they don't seem to the frozen store bought. If the water doesn't hold shad then I like to show up early and catch bluegill for bait or bring some from a local pit where I can use a casting net to get large numbers.
