definitely not as bad as a 12GA. I don't have .308 but I have a couple military rifles that are very close in recoil if not worse than a .308 and they are all managable. just make sure you don't develop a flinch because of the recoil if you are not used to it.

All I shoot is a .308, it is very managable and Im not that big, less than 155 pounds and 6' tall. I shoot a bolt gun and find it very easy to fire follow up shots, in fact I shot a spike this year and right after he dropped I saw his doe bolt from behind a tree, reloaded and shot her too! all in like 4 seconds. So, in my opinion, the .308 isnt that bad at all, and it performs great.

A 308, is not too bad. Then again, it also depends on the gun design. I had a Mosin-Nagant that was chambered in 308, and that thing kicked like a PI$$ED OFF MULE! I mean it nearly broke my dang shoulder a few times. On the filp side, the newer rifles are designed to pretty much reduce as much recoil as possible. Also if the gun DOSE turn out to be a little "TOUGH" for you, you can look into a custom stock, and also a "Managed recoil" style round(just means not as much powder basically). If you can handle a 12 g. you should not have a problem though.

I guess the shorter one kicks harder, the 91/30 was just like shooting a .270

I have never shot any of the 91/30. I know the 91/30's had some variations from the M38's and M44's. Like the barrel length. The 91/30 barrel is about 8 and 1/2 inches longer, and the Rear sight on the 91/30 went all the way up to 2,500 M as opposed to 1,500 M with the M38 and M44. Both of those things would contribute to better accuracy, but as far as recoil goes, I doubt it. Guess i'll have to get ahold of one and try it out

Yeah I don't know, I mean it was not a soft kick by any means but it wasn't too bad. Nothing like a dern 7mm mag.

I have an M44 and a 91/30 and the M44 definitely has a bit more recoil just because of the length and weight difference. My M44 was never bad enough to bruise my shoulder at all even after shooting 30 rounds.
