There are a few proposed changes to current regulation regarding the use of live shad, cast net size and protection of large catfish by commercial fishing here in Indiana. The proposed changes are: 1. Allow the use of live shad as bait on bodies of water where striped bass and hybrid stripers have been stocked providing the shad are taken from the body of water in which they are to be used. 2. Increase cast net size from 5 foot radius to a 10 foot radius 3. Impose a 1 catfish over 34 inches long per person per day for commercial and recreational fisherman. The first two will be discussed at the May 18th National Resource Commision meeting and the third will be discussed at the July 20th meeting. The meetings are held by the NRC with the Division of Fish and Wildlife and are open to the public. I will post the details of the meetings as I find out more info. The NRC web address is www.in.gov/nrc/2403.htmAdditionally, I started a petition a few years ago for the 34" catfish rule. You can view and sign it here: www.petitiononline.com/scoot268/petition.htmlI will be taking it with me at the July 20th meeting, Thanks for all your help.
