they just updated the rules for the 2010 indiana youth deer hunt. a youth can now take either a doe OR a buck, but if you take a buck during the special youth hunt you won't be able to take another buck during the normal season unless it is a military/urban deer hunt. heres the link www.in.gov/nrc/files/LSA_09_60.pdf |

Personally, I like this change. I want my sons to shoot mature bucks. If they do that at the very beginning of the season, so be it. It gives them choices. I know that neither of them would harvest a small buck at the beginning of the season, knowing they have a chance at a mature buck during the rut.

This is a pretty cool change although i have never seen a buck anyway during the past youth hunts.

I like the change a lot. That's asking a lot of a kid to have to pass on a buck, especially if it's their first.

being honest, i probly couldn't pass any buck.i'm 13 and i've hunted the last 2 years and i'm deerless

It's about time. I was shocked that youth couldn't shoot a buck when this season first started.

didnt know they wanted us to be able to shoot bucks at first. thought it was just a sort of doe reduction hunt.

never seen a buck while on a youth hunt but killed 2 hugh does
