I'm reposting this thread in the general board so hopefully I get more responses than in the gun board. I'm looking for tips on how to sight in a scope that is no where near being sighted in. I'm barely touching paper at 25 yards. Any tips or pointers would be great!

I'm not an expert by any means, but here's what I'd do. If you're barely hitting paper at 25 yds, get a bigger target. If at all possible get a solid rest to shoot off of. Start out with a 25 yard target, and take three shots to get your grouping. After your 3 shot group, look through the scope, place cross hairs on the bulls eye again, and now move cross hairs to the center of the 3 shot group. Your cross hairs should now be where the bullets are hitting! This is the simplest way I know of to sight in a scope, but it requires that the gun be held in place. I don't have a gun rest, but I've got a MTM maintenance rest (made in Ohio!) that doubles as a gun rest, I just add a sandbag for stability. Now that you have it sighted in at 25 yards, move to the 100 yard target and repeat this procedure. MTM Case-Guard: www.mtmcase-gard.com/products/shooting/gunm.html
