Decided to hit Bass today in order to mark some ice fishing spots and cycle through some gas. With afternoon storms predicted, the bite could be on. I didn't pick up any bait for the trip since I just planned on pulling cranks and maybe trying some spoons.
I was the only one on the lake the entire time I was there. Weekday, deer season, and low low low water are the primary reasons. When launching, don't go too far to port or you will be in a foot of water for a long time. When coming back, don't get too close to the pads or you will end up having to drop the trolling motor to get to the ramp.
Decided to jig a bit before I starting pulling cranks and put on a 1/4 ounce white with a translucent chartreuse 3 inch grub. Picked up a couple of small bass with that.
Pulled it through what looked like a decent ball of bait on the graph and had something hit it but I couldn't get hooked up. Went to pulling cranks and had my three favorite colors out there going and they wouldn't hit a thing. Trolled from 3 feet all the way to 20 feet without a single pullback.
Decided to call it around 11 since nothing was going on and it was looking like a yellow bag kind of day. Good thing too, cause the closer to home I got, the darker the skies looked. Two miles from home there was some viscous lightning strikes and I was backing the boat into the garage as it started to rain.
I was able to find a couple nice spots of weeds and get some marks put on the Humminbird. After this weather clears out this week, it will have to be some spooning on Culver and some more ice spots marked up.
