Hey guys! Was just wondering if anyone else caught the History channel miniseries this week and what you thought of it. Had no idea what to expect going into it, but was actually really impressed. It was pretty graphic for basic cable. The wife wouldn't even watch it . What do you guys think?

Pretty good show. It was the movie, just had to break it up into 3 shows. Probably won't get many viewers if they played all 6 hours at once. Could you imagine living through all that?

I recorded the first part but apparently missed the second two parts. Hopefully they will replay them so I can see the whole miniseries.

Could you imagine living through all that? That's what was amazing to me, how many different incidents there were. From what I've read, the miniseries was pretty historically accurate. Of course there were the usual Hollywood embellishments, but supposedly everything in the movie actually happened. The story of the Hatfields and McCoys is one of those things that everyone's heard of but few actually know what it was about.

I didn't get to see the entire series, but I caught a good part of all 3 episodes. I thought they did a great job with it. My only complaint would be that I didn't think the locale looked like Kentucky or West Virginia, especially not the way they had the town laid out; looked more like a "Wild West" town. I've seen documentaries on the feud and the area is nothing but big hills and it's THICK with trees still to this day other than what the coal mines have wiped out. *Update* I was getting ready to post what I typed above, but did a quick search to see where the series was filmed; entirely in Romania! Isn't that where they film all those stupid vampire movies?

Man, the more I look into this the more ticked off I'm getting. Seems the film industry is using Romania because of cheap labor and no safety or environmental rules. Here's a video from History Channel making excuses on why they filmed there... www.history.com/shows/hatfields-and-mccoys/videos/romania-becomes-appalachia#romania-becomes-appalachiaAnd here's an article about the REAL reasons companies film there... www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/cl-et-romania2oct02,0,597011.story?page=1 A couple quotes from the article... "You'll be amazed how far your money will go," said Richard Wright, an executive at Lakeshore Entertainment, which made this past summer's "The Cave" in Romania. Wright estimates Romanian labor can run at least 80% cheaper than American labor."We were told, somewhat to our amazement, that the livestock, sadly, would cost more" than $16-a-day extras, said Guy Louthan, who produced "Method" and "Seed of Chucky" in Romania.Andrei Boncea, general director of Bucharest's MediaPro Pictures, says paying someone $1.50 an hour is "not against the law here."

I've seen that they use Romania for several movies. It was in the special features of A Knights Tale

I would have to believe a lot of the movies we watch these days don't get filmed much on american soil BTW, I really enjoyed the series. Like Monty said, this feud is something we all have heard about but don't know much about. I feel I increased my history knowledge after watching it.
