Just wanted to warn everyone that the deer ticks are BAD this year and to use plenty of bug spray when heading to the outdoors.
I know nothing about Lyme disease other than to "avoid deer ticks." I saw where Indiana Angler member, Wendell's, wife and daughter both have been diagnosed with this disease and a buddy at work has a son that's might have it. Wendell recommended everyone should watch a movie called "Under Our Skin" that's about the disease. I found it on the web and I'm gonna watch it soon... www.hulu.com/watch/268761/under-our-skin
Coincidentally, I had my first run in with a deer tick just this evening. I got out of the shower and seen a red spot on my chest in the mirror. Looked down and seen the tiny body sticking out and the head was buried. :-/I had Chase do a google search to find out how to remove it and we found something about covering the tick with insect repellent and waiting 15 minutes for it to release it's grip, and then you could pull it out with tweezers. Didn't work. The body of the tick just fell apart and the head was still buried. I knew it had to come out, so I got out one of my taxidermy cutting needles and went to work on it. I'm usually pretty queasy when I see my own blood, but I wanted that damn thing out! I cut all around it and then was able to pull it out with the tweezers.
If I hadn't seen that red spot while looking in the mirror I would have had no idea it was stuck in me. Even though it was red and swollen, there was no pain or soreness. I can definitely see how someone could have one of these on them and not know it.
