Stepped outside the night before last after a rain shower and the crawlers were out. Colton picked up over 2 dozen in about 20 minutes just around the house. Free bait!!

Sweet, free is my favorite price, lol. The kids and I had a nitecrawler pick up party on Saturday morning, we found about 30. What is the best way to keep them alive for a while?

My father-in-law bought some worm bedding and keeps them in a small Styrofoam cooler.
I don't know if it because they are from the yard or not, but the fish have absolutely torn up the night crawlers we picked up the last couple of weekends.

I guess you could find them underneath rocks and logs during the day but night is obviously the best way. lol

Sorry, one of the posts said morning, I've found some in the mornings after a big rain, or ive heard you can hose down a yard and do it. Thought that's what you guys were talking about. The most i ever found was when we had a new well put in, and i don't remember exactly what happened because i was little, but i guess they drained it. anyway, there were hundreds of them just crawlin to the surface.

Sorry that was me,lol. I did not clarify myself, we found them in the morning after a rain, but what I failed to mention was they were all on the road in front of our house,my bad, yes agree at night is typically best.

yeah I went out probably the same night and found a bunch in my freshly tilled garden. They were everywhere and already mating so I caught a bunch of doubles.. those are the best because they cant get away fast and they are all stretched out.. either way i came out covered in mud but I got a jar full. I keep them in a cooler every year and buy worm bedding and just catch a bunch here and there and keep adding them to the cooler. I get a stockpile and never have to buy worms. I put a bunch of that worm bedding from walmart and mix some leaves a little dirt and other things in there and throw a little food in there here and there, it doesnt take a lot of maintenance.. just gotta keep it in a place where they cant get to hot.
