It's on everyones mind but strippitman brought up fuel prices in the overstockbait.com thread. How is this gona affect your year outdoors? I bought a beater car that gets good gas mileage but I'm sure its still gona cut back on my fishing. Maybe I need a 10 speed with a weed eater motor.....

Definitely gonna have an impact, just like it did last year. We use to camp almost every week during the summer, but with gas prices getting so high we just can't afford to fill up the ol' RV anymore. We camped 2 times last year; once at Shakamak which is about 5 miles away and once at Fowler Park which is about 20 miles away. My plan the past couple years was to try and figure out the walleye bite here in Indiana. The problem with that is all the reservoirs are an hour or more from the house. Sullivan Lake is only about 25 minutes, but there you have the added county park fees. I really don't see how they get by with charging these fees when the DNR stocks the lake? Anyhow, something I've been thinking about doing this year is a "Greene-Sullivan Challenge" - seeing how many of the 100+ pits I can catch a fish out of this year. It's only about 10 miles away and I think it would be kind of fun exploring the different lakes.

Sounds like a good plan. Now I've got to figure a way to put my kayaks on a compact car and a hitch for my boat haha. Have plans to go newton Illinois again but its a full tank round trip plus the other costs of staying and eating etc. Fishing and hunting is about to be a rich man's game.

You could just ride with me when I'm in the truck justin. Other than that, I think I'll just buy a pen rod and a few lures to throw in the bag on the bike.

The gas prices probably won't affect my summer plans too much. Most of my hunting and fishing areas are within 20 miles of my house with a lot being much closer. I only have one trip planned out to Mosquito Reservoir in eastern Ohio for flatheads that is about 50 miles away so my wallet will be lighter after that trip.
Even though most of my places are close to home, I still plan on checking out some fishing waters that are even closer that I have probably overlooked. Some small parks and streams that don't get fished very much. Who knows? Maybe some lunkers are hiding out in them.
I like your idea Troy about the 100+ pits you will try to fish. Could make a pretty good video series.

It's only about 10 miles away and I think it would be kind of fun exploring the different lakes. This is a great idea! It's actually something I have kind of worked on over the years. I've tried several pits down there but there are so many more to discover! That is the majesty of that place. Each pit is unique in its own way and I am driven to experience each and every one of them Unfortunately, gas prices will definately have a big impact on my adventures this year. Camping won't happen much and I'll probably only make it down to Greene-Sullivan once (if I make it at all). Sad! Especially, since I didn't go at all last year after having been down there at least once in each of the past 10 years. Some years I made the trip 4 times! Gas is gonna be a killer

Yep. I've visited that site many times. The problem is that the lake is an hour away and I can't afford the gas to get over there enough to figure them out.

I'll see if I can figure them out and then tell you the secrets.

Well for sure it is going to be a problem, I run the premium in the boat for easier starts and it doesn't seem to bog down and I'm sure it will be $5+ for that.
This just means it will be a full day venture and even a night of camping in a tent for a second day adventure if needed.
Forget those long hauls down to the Ohio river a couple times a month, it will be more like 1 time a month now.
It hurt today just going from Indy to Fort Wayne and back, I about had a stroke!

Yea it will have an effect for me as well. Kind of sad really but every thing has gone up except for our pay checks. It is unfair that the cost of " getting there" out weighs the fun the family will have we " do get there". I do a lot more fishing in the winter but I know I had to limit my running around and fishing last summer because I over spent on my fuel budget the previous winter, lol. Here is an example of how this has already impacted me. I am very interested in becoming a student in the game of targeting walleye, that being said I had great interest and intentions of going to Brookville for the Indianawalleye.com outing. Camping for the weekend and bait and tips to the boat owner who had me on board and gas, I can book a One day charter on lake Erie for much less money, so the outing is a no go for me.

Exact same thing here, Bubba. That outing sounds like it would be an absolute blast, but it's just too darn far for me. Brookville isn't that far "as the crow flies," but there's no good way to get over there from here. Heck, I think the quickest way is to go up to Indy and take I-74 over. We need one of these bright young minds on here to find an economical replacement for gasoline.
