One of my open face reels is due for new line and I opted to try out something new this time. Decided to go with the FINS Windtamer. I placed the order Monday night and it was at my door today. According to their site the closest dealer is in Madison, IN. I thought Dick's might carry it but it's only certain ones (mainly in Florida). They don't even sell it on their website or I missed it. I had to order directly off the FINS site. Hopefully I'll get to try it out this weekend. www.buyfins.com/wind.aspx

That looks like some good stuff! I got a new Quantum Triax open face combo earlier this year at Gander Mtn and wanted to try some new line so I went with Vicious Ultimate in 8lb test and that stuff is junk! I knew I was in trouble when it started kinking off the spool. I should have just took it back but I didn't want to drive back to Terre Haute and was wanting to fish. I'm thinking that it must have been spooled wrong at the factory or something. Every time I cast I have to check the rod tip to make sure it's not wrapped. Anyhow....let us know how that stuff works. I might try some on our "big fish" reels. I'm looking for something that won't dig into it's self and that's one of their claims.

I've been having a lot of problems using the spider wire braid knotting up on me which is what made me want to try the Windtamer. Hopefully before the weekend is over I'll get out there and try it. Got a funeral to go to Saturday and then Sunday being fathers day.

Don't overlook the Vicious products I take it you didn't read my little "rant" about the Vicious product I tried? Just a couple posts up?

Don't overlook the Vicious products I take it you didn't read my little "rant" about the Vicious product I tried? Just a couple posts up? You're right! Somehow I totally overlooked your post. Actually, I've never used it but I have a couple of buddies that swear by it. I was thinking about getting some the next time I needed line but now that I've read your post I'll pass! I have had very little luck with the different flourocarbons that I have tried. They all seem to kink easy, the knots don't hold well, and they seem to cut easily. The main advantage (I've been told) to flourocarbon is supposed to be feel and the fact that it doesn't stretch makes hook sets much more accurate. Berkley Monofilament has always been good to me.

I've got some P-Line Floroclear in 20lb test that's not been too bad. I've got a couple reels spooled with it but mainly use it as leader material. I hate to give up on Vicious with it being Made in the USA, but fishing line's too darn expensive to experiment too much.

Whenever I need new line, I usually just get whatever is on the clearance table at my local tackle shop. I have saved a lot of money doing that. My last deal was a spool of 20lb. test Stren mono for $3. can't go wrong paying that much.

Got it spooled up this evening and tried it out for roughly an hour. It didn't give me any problems but I'm also not going to consider that "the test" to know whether or not this stuff will cooperate. I'll probably get to fish a little bit tomorrow but again it won't be hours of casting to see how it holds up. Hopefully that will be next weekend.

So I got to test it out a little more yesterday morning and it's running good. The only knot I've had was a result of catching the lure on some weeds when I went to cast but other than that, nothin. Getting ready to head back out there and will give it some more testing but after what I saw yesterday I think I have found my new braid line.

i use and like power pro an easy rule to go by is to never go below 20lb braid on spinning tackle (i use 30) and to make sure to not overload the spool which will really cause problems also on baitcasters never go under 30 lb i use 65 and 80 lb
