I was feeling a little stressed this evening so I grabbed a rod and headed to the pond. The one I grabbed was the little ultra light with the 1/16 oz rooster tail that Chase and me limited out on trout with last week with. The first cast I caught a 15" bass. Now THAT was a stess reliever! I ended up catching 3 largemouth, 6 gills/redear, and 2 crappie in about a half hour. So......since buying this little bait at gander mountain last week, I've used it 2 times and caught 19 fish, 4 different species, in less than 2 hours. Here's the last one I caught this evening; a 13 incher that thought he was a lot bigger...

You might want to get that lure mounted I usually spend $6-$8 on a lure that never gets to catch anything because I lose it by getting snagged on a log on my ninth cast Rooster tails have always been good all-purpose lures but by looking at them it makes you wonder "why?". I've caught tons of fish over the years with rooster tails. I think one of favorite features of them is that you can get really small ones for bluegills but can still cast them pretty far. Nice stats for your lure! You may have to enter that into your fishing lure Hall of Fame.

The hot streak ended today. Went back to Minne to try for trout and went 0 for 1 with the little lure and this evening I only managed one 12" bass on it.

Finally lost it. I was fishing the pond last week and was slammin' the gills with it. I had just caught a 14" bass and cast again. My dad had come down on the 4-wheeler and I was just getting ready to tell him that I'd probably caught over a 100 fish on that one lure when something slammed it and broke the line. Probably a channel or another bass. Definitely got my money's worth out of that lure. I've got another one in 1/32 oz but haven't been able to find anymore 1/16 oz.

looks awfully big for trout fishing, but if it works keep using it. Too big? I was thinking too small. That's a tiny bass in the pic and there's some BIG holdover trout in those pits. I've seen pics of 5 pounders that come out of Airline and Island. BTW - I lost my 1/32oz catching bait for striper fishing a while back. I've never seen one with the gold propeller type spinner in a walmart before, but I'll keep checking.

I've always used that as a go to lure. It is a 1/32 oz. and not a 1/16 oz. Are you sure about the size ?? Maybe they added a bigger size. Rooster tails do not make a blade like that except on the 1/32 oz size. If you broke off your not using heavy enough line. Most times those hooks will bend before breaking line. I have to replace hooks on these two or three times a year. Don't be afraid to toss them into heavy cover. I expect to get hung up, just use heavier line and the hooks will bend before breaking. Just keep a pair of plyers handy to straighten them back out. After it bends so many times the hooks have to be replaced. To do that just get some small split rings, add to the lure, and then put your new hook on it. I did experiment with this and hooks. I found that when I replaced hooks on it that a single small hook had just about the same hook-up ratio as a treble hook, and didn't get snagged near as much. This is the lure that took me away from fly fishing. After fishing with these I caught so many fish so fast it put fly fishing to shame. I will mention that these lures are only good for shallow water fishing. They don't get very deep because they are so light. This has been a bread and butter lure for me for many years !!

I know the yakima site says they only come in 1/32, and maybe they only do now, but Gander Mountain did have them in 3 different sizes. I still haven't found them anywhere. Closest I can find is "brown trout" color in 1/32. I did come across some flies I'm thinking about trying; www.pistolpeteflies.com/ , some of them come with the little gold propellers just like the rooster tail.

This is my "Go To" lure. Tough to tell by the pic but it's black and blue and you can find them at Wal-Mart. This lure has caught bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish and walleye/saugeye.
