I had my first local tournament today. Our club started of the year with a trip to Monroe. The weather started out a little rough but improved as the day went on. We started with 20-30 mph gusts and rain. It was around 42 degree air temp and 46 degree water. By 4pm we had 5-10 mph winds and 52 degree water. Everyone fished our butts of today with only one keeper. I told my non-boater today that whoever brings a fish to the scale was really lucky. And if they brought in 2 they were cheating. Guess who got lucky... Yes it was my lucky day. I must have dropped it on his head. I had one that went 3.88lbs. I also had one catfish that went 3.5 and 1 crappie that went 1.22lbs. It was a very tough tournament with water levels 9 feet above pool and cold water. I threw everything including the kitchen sink. Crank bait from 0-28 feet of water. Jigs, spinnerbait, and chatterbait. Mine came out of 2-3 of water on a white chatterbait. The ponds are a lot warmer and very easy to catch fish at this time but the big waters are a different story. I'm heading to Kentucky Lake on Friday to catch some crappie and pre fish for my bass tournament coming up in a few weeks. Good luck to everyone!!
