While rabbit hunting this afternoon with a buddy of mine we found this big male mink. It was in the middle of a CRP field in an area where the weeds weren't to thick. It wasn't tore up or anything, just laying there. There is water in the vicinity but nothing real close to where we found him. I guess he was in the CRP hunting. Any ideas as to what may have happened to him, my friend thought that he may have gotten second in a fight with another mink

maybe a deal where he was lookin for a mate and wasnt worryin about food???just a shot in the dark

Its probably mating season for them and a fight with another male is highly possible if it is. Minks are mean little creatures, they go as far as killing all the male offspring they can get ahold of to keep competition down the next breeding season. A lot of times when they are trying to do this also the females will kill the male. But I think its a little early in the year yet for that.
