This was a thread that was started on the Indiana Carp Talk forum by one of the members who was putting together a paper for a class at Hanover College.
Since I thought that this was a very interesting thing to consider and put into words, I thought I'd transplant it to this forum for all of you here to add your thoughts.
Here's the topic:
Fellow carpers,
I have research paper for one of my classes at Hanover College, the class entails a look at water and how it is portrayed through media, books, art, etc. For this 6-8 page paper I have chosen to take an in depth look at the effects that fishing has had throughout the history of man. I know fishing has made a very large influence thorughout my life, however I am not able to use myself as a source. So, for any fellow carpers that are willing to share any information/stories of the influence fishing has had on you; it would be greatly appreciated. Any information that you can to share may be cited in a paper, so if you do share anything it will mean that you have given me the right to use this information in a paper that will be read and presented to a class (any usage will be cited in my paper). Anything and everything is appreciated, whether it is a sentence, paragraph or even longer.
Thanks guys,
Jordan
My response:
For myself, fishing has certainly provided both the most relaxing times, as well as some of my most exciting and gratifying experiences as well!
And while there's always a level of comfort from doing something that is very familiar, the fact that it's unpredictable and never exactly the same as before, keeps the anticipation fresh for every outing.
The mixture of science, technology, improvisation, skill, technique...and luck, all plays a part, of course.
Much more enjoyable to participate than merely observing other sports or activities too.
And while we all have our own favorites, the possibilities for where and how are unlimited.
My boys and I have enjoyed so many good times together fishing that I can't even imagine what life would have been like without it. Hopefully, it will continue for many years to come!
Enjoying some success!
Snagged on the tail with a crappie jig.
You never know what's gonna happen!
Moments to savor if you're catching or not.
They'll pass it down to their own kids someday...
