Welcome to the madness! well i'm already havin troubles, i can cast a little ways but every time i bring it in the leader is all tangled, i was told to buy some low memory 20# line and use it so we'll see how it works

buy a cheap leader straightener or use a small piece of leather hold it tight on the line and run it across it and the heat will straighten it

What weight is your rod? 20lb seems awful heavy.
Could be the leader...
...but...
...sounds like your not letting your line fully straighten either on the fore or backcast. Its more than simply waving around a magic wand. Dont get frustrated, stay with it and be patient.
One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to "pop" for bass and gills....great fun!

Its all in the wrist. You'll get it but it takes some time. Yes 20lb is pretty heavy. Sounds like your might not following thru all the way. Might want to try shortening your leader or it might be that your fly is not heavy enough for the wight of leader you have on. Try something with a little more weight to it. Keep at er.

as you are learning to cast always remember 10 and 2. Your stick should stay between 10 and 2.....work from the elbow. Allow your rod to load and unload.
after you get comfortable with the basic cast/feel you can get fancy...until then 10 and 2!

go to you tube and search fly rod casting, should help on casting.I use a medium weight line and for a leader i just use 8-20 lb line dependng on type of fish.if you have any other questions just ask, i am a die hard fly fisherman
