NOTICE: Shakamak will be closed December 11-12, 18-19, January 8-9, February 5-6, and 12-13 while the property conducts reduction hunts to manage Canada geese.
Here's a report I did for someone over on Indiana Angler. Thought I better share it here on the Braggin Board too.
Got out to the park right at sunrise this morning. I drove right to the causeway between Kickapoo and Lenape, thinking the geese would be out in the middle of Kickapoo. Didn't see a goose. Ended up finding some at the dam and they were all the way up the western shore, from one end of the lake to the other. As the sun got up in the sky they started moving towards the middle of the lake and some small flocks were getting up to go feed. When I left at 9:00, I'd say only about 10% had moved out.
Here's a map of Kickapoo with the red circles indicating where I saw the biggest flocks and the blue circle is where most were moving to when the sun got up good.
Here's a pic I snapped on the north end by the boat rental dock. I could have walked up and got my limit.
I figured out why I've not been seeing any ducks around here; they're all at Shakamak! I also checked out lakes Lenape and Shakamak, but didn't see a bird on either lake.
I shot a little bit of video, but my camera was acting funny in the single digit temps and it's not that great. It starts out on the dam and ends across from the boat ramp.
Good luck this weekend! I just wish you could kill a lot more than what you're allowed. Hopefully you'll chase some of them ducks my way too.
