In my opinion, unless you plan on doing some serious towing or carrying some huge payloads, there isn't really any advantage to a diesal.

This is one of those threads that could go on and on with people bickering back and forth about what they think is better....so here's my biased opinion. When I bought my gas powered 3/4 ton 4x4 over 5 years ago people kept asking me (and some still ask me to this day) "Why didn't you buy a diesel"? Truth of the matter is that diesels were really in their selling prime back in '05 and you were going to pay if you wanted one. Gas trucks on the other hand were starting to take a dive with the scare of $3 a gallon gas. I probably saved 8-$10K easily. A lot of people will say that a diesel will last a lifetime which is true but there is still a whole lot of other stuff that can go wrong with other parts of that truck in that lifetime. I'll go on to say that my truck is not my daily driver so the less than favorable mpg's don't really bother me. In the 5 years I've owned it I've only put 40k miles on it. The best I've seen with it is 17mpg. That included (don't ask me how I remember this) filling up at the Sunoco in Shelburn, driving to Indy and back to Sullivan, 2 trips to work (40 mile round trip), a trip to Bloomington and on the return filling up in Linton. This was also done on stock tires and a true dual exhaust with cats but no mufflers. Now I run 33's and a dual in/dual out Flowmaster (don't really care for the FM). Alright, to end this post I'll just say that there are times I think I should've bought a Cummins instead of a Hemi but at the same time I've never needed the extra hp/torque that the Cummins offers so it still turns out to be a cost saver for me. That and payoff came a lot sooner as well. I'm tickled I still have this truck because I thought I was going to have to give it up in early '09.
