I am wondering how to catch a shad with a fishing pole??? can any one help

That is a tough thing to do. I recomend a cast net.
But This is how I do it sometimes. take a Sabiki rig and put a wax worm on every hook and a 1 or 2 oz. sinker on the end. You just tight line in the same places where you catch Skipjack. It was in the summertime, in a current break.
Also if you see a thick school just tie on 3 or 4 hooks and snag a few.

This is a little off subject, as I'd just stick with a cast net for shad, but I plan on getting some of these Skippi Jigs for skipjack. Looks ALMOST as fun as catching big cats! www.monsterrodholders.com/SKIPPIJIGS.html
