Your from Indiana right? We really dont have Alligator gar "UP HERE." We DO however have Longnose, Shortnose, and Spotted Gar. I did however recently hear somewhere,( i think it was on a BlogTV by Royboy and Bcamp) that the Kentucky DNR has released an amount of Alligator Gar into a few rivers in Kentucky to help combat the Asain Carp problem. And that they also said that they will eventually make their ways up into indiana waters, But I think it will be a LONG time before we se any with some SIZE to them.

what about those pits behind your house troy? A few on the map look like they would be deep enough for some good fish. Or are they still open? If not, you could probably go out there.

Went out today to check the Ice, and ACTUALLY GOT TO FISH!! I did'nt go out real far, only about 25-30 yards from the bank, but that far out, I still had a SOLID 5 inches of ice. I did'nt really want to go out far without checking the other side first( since it usually takes longer to freeze) so I walked the bank line and drilled a few holes on the opposite side of the pond. Again another 5 inches. I believe that the center is solid enough too. I did'nt catch anything, only got to fish a few minutes, Me and the misses gotta go to town and get diapers. maybe tomorrow!!

Pretty rotten around the edge, I've been watchin mine too. It is about the same as how you describe yours. Except, i have a shallow side with a point off it, I think if i were to go out on that point, it would be thick enough. I'm just gettin some "REASSURANCE" by lettin these next few cold nights go by.
