When I dropped my deer off at the processer he said he would weigh it for me. I got it back and it weighed 185. This was field dressed and caped. Trying to get an idea of what the weight would have been had he not been caped. Any ideas what a head and cape would weigh? Also my buck this year had severly deteriorated front hooves. The guys at G2 thought that he probably was a blue tongue survivor. The back hooves were normal however. Any body have info about blue tongue survivors or what else may have caused that. The guys over there thought that he wasn't any older than 4 1/2.

Looking around on the internet, I couldn't find any cut and dry answers to the weight of hide/head. Did find that the average mature buck hide is about 9% of body weight. If I had to guess, I'd say approx. 30# for head/hide. Another 50-55# lost in field dressing would put his live weight around 265-270#. A hawg for this area for sure!

Thanks Monty. I talked to guy last night that thought about like you did. He said somewhere around 30-35lbs for the head and cape. easily the biggest deer I've shot.
