My cousin, Dan Fry, caught what he thought was a very nice walleye last fall at Sullivan Lake. It weighed 8lbs 7 oz., 15 minutes later he caught a 6lb 10oz fish. He had the larger fish mounted. Dan had always thought that walleye had the white tipped tail and saugeye did not. He did a little research and found out that this was not true and what he had mounted was actually a saugeye. The state record Indiana saugeye is 8lbs 8 oz., Dan's was 8lb 7oz on his digital scale. We'll never now what it would have weighed on a certified scale.

That is a real nice saugeye!! I am not sure if they ever stocked walleye in Sullivan. I used to crappie fish it every spring and we would always catch a few saugeye. Non as big as this one!!

yes they did stocked walleye in Sullivan. back in 95,96,97,98,but my book only goes to 2000, I found some info online that said it was stocked with walleye for 12 consecutive years..but did not say what years and if they are still stocking. I was fishing a jig at the dam about 10 years ago, and hooked something big..Had it on for about 5 minutes before it broke off..I figured it was a nice eye or a catfish?? My dad lost a pole that was just laying against the gunwale one year..I seen the rod tip bend over and shake then flip right over the side ..

Hey Randy! Was it a Shimano?? I caught a rod and reel today fishing with Danny throwing a crankbait for saugeye. Thought I had a stick or something until I got it up! Will get some footage of it up.
