On just his second hunt Sam took his first deer, a doe, at about 7:30 last night.

At least that's when he took the shot... :'(

We (and by "we" I mean me, Sam, my wife, and Sam's two sisters) followed the blood trail for 2 hours and probably 3/4 of a mile! On her way, she crossed Honey Creek twice and finally died right in the middle of it. I knew he hit her high, but I really thought he caught the lungs...He didn't. In hind sight I probably should have waited until morning, but when it's your son's first deer, you just want to see it on the ground (or water!

)

And, as Bell luck would have it, the video camera quit working yesterday! Don't know if it got wet Friday or what, but no kill footage. I was on her, but the record button wouldn't work. Got a little footage afterwards, but not the good stuff. Earlier, when I told him the camera wasn't working he said that meant he'd probably get one then. He was right! Oh well! Whatcha gonna do?

If you notice Sam doesn't look so well, it's because he has a cold, a sore throat, and slight fever. Wasn't going to stop him from hunting, though!
