No luck this evening. It was still a great hunt though. Had critters around us the whole time. Booey took a shot at a squirrel and barely missed. Had does come in and one got within 15 FEET, but just where Booey couldn't get a shot. Poor guy was shaking like it was a 30 pointer. Had turkeys coming in too, but they roosted about 50 yds off. Chase might go after them in the morning; I'm back to work for at least the next 4 days. Chase didn't get to hunt this evening, he was taking his drivers test. He aced it.

Opening morning was fairly uneventful for me, had a fox rite under me before daylight and shot a squirrel just before leaving. That nite passed on 2 does and when I got home found out I shouldn't have, The guys that have been working in my basement unplugged my deep freeze! Guess I should have checked everything when they left. The stuff on bottom is OK but lost the deer meat I had left and possibly my Javalena hide from Texas!

Oct. 3 MorningI'm back from one crazy morning in the woods. It started out by heading out a little later than I wanted. I look at my watch and shooting time just started. I ease over a hump in the hay field and I see a huge dark body 100+ yards from me in the field. It's still pretty dark, all I can tell is that it's snow white antlers were well past the ears. I hit the dirt and try to think of a plan. I peak back over and it's looking right at me. Then it starts trotting off followed by a doe. After that, I get in the buddy stand that Dad and Booey were in yesterday evening. I see nothing until 8, when a small yearling doe comes out of nowhere. I watch it for over 40 minutes eating acorns. While watching the young deer, I here some turkeys behind me. I slowly turn my head and there are three big hens 30 yds behind me and closing. With the doe still 20 yds away, I try to stand and turn around. The doe sees me and walks off and so do the turkeys. A while after that excitement, I see what at first I think is a turkey but it's a coon. It comes right under the stand. I grab the camera and swing it around and I don't see the coon. I look to my right and no coon. How did that little booger sneak off that fast. Then I look down the tree and good 2 feet from is the coon climbing up my tree and within petting distance. I stand up and the coon jumps down and runs off. A few minutes later I shoot at a squirrel and hit right over it. At 10, I see another big doe in a dried up pond where I shot my doe last year. At 11, I call it a morning and head hope to get something to eat. Overall, a great and exciting hunt. This is where I'll be this evening.

Headed out the other day. I didn't see anything but my dad said he saw at least 2. None close to shooting range.

I saw a couple big does and a yearling this evening. I also saw some turkeys but they stayed out of range. While I was tieing the rope to my bow to lower it down I heard something running to me. It was pretty dark. A big coyote came within 15 yds of me. This was the biggest coyote I have seen in my life. It saw me right a way and ran off. On my way out of the woods I jumped a deer. I'm going again in the morning.

Oct. 4 This morning was pretty slow. Scared something out of the woods while walking to the stand in the dark and saw nothing til at around ten and saw turkeys out of range. This evening I was setting up the camera arm and I look across a pond behind our stand and see a deer. I sit down the camera arm and quickly hoist up my bow that is still on the ground. The camera is still in the backpack. It ends up being a doe. I watch it for over an hour and a half. I passed on it today but it better not show up later this season.

I'm afraid Booey's gonna be spoiled. We've been out 3 times and had critters around us the whole time. I'm not sure how he'll react to one of those days when you don't even see a chipmunk. Our last hunt was interesting, we got to the woods around 4:30pm and I could hear scratching noises, I crouch down and peek over some brush and there is at least a dozen turkeys under our stand! Booey had forgot his release , so I had sent him back to the house and I had gone on to the stand to setup the camera. Booey shows up and see's me ducked down, so he does the same. I peek back at the turkeys and they aren't spooked, but know somethings not right. They begin filing out of the woods. Looked like there was 12-15. We finally get up in the stand and around 7 we see a doe. We watch her eat acorns for around an hour. She started walking right to us a few times, but eventually went out to the hayfield and across the road to the beans. It seems all the deer around here are nocturnal right now, the only time we see them is heading to or from the beanfield. We may break out the groundblind this evening and hunt in the rain. Booey finally will have his first morning hunt Saturday. Can't wait!!
