The draw results are in for State Parks. I got drawn for Shakamak. Kind of convenient being a few miles up the road. You can kill up to 3 deer and none count against your license. With a possible layoff coming this winter where I work, I'll be looking to fill the freezer. Here's the link to check the draw results: www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/5655.htm

i know im a little late for this year, but how does one go about entering for the state park hunts? i would like to enter for next year. Basically, sign up for the parks you would like to hunt at and wait to see if you get drawn. I think everything will be listed on the DNR website around July, maybe earlier. Once it's listed, that's when you sign up and can do so on the website. Is that right Troy? I've never tried for a park hunt but from what I've read that's what it entails.

Got my stand hung today, looks like a SWEET spot! I found a trail where I can see about a 100 yards in 2 directions and there's big scrapes every 20 yds or so. I found an even better spot in another part of the park, but it was so thick I couldn't find a good stand location. I'm gonna bring the 3rd Arm and our little camera and try to get some video. The hunt is Monday and Tuesday.

Good luck! Did you find out if they still keep the racks if you kill a buck?

Good luck! Did you find out if they still keep the racks if you kill a buck? Thanks. My info packet says I can kill 3 deer with only one being antlered. It doesn't mention taking the horns. I'll take lots of pics and video if I get one, just in case.

Well, I'm glad all you Indiana guys had such lovely weather all weekend. Now that I'm off and ready to hunt it's suppose to rain for the next 3 days! That's ok though, got my gorilla arm umbrella and a poncho. Brown and down baby!

Well? I set in my stand for 7 hours and seen 2 squirrels. I counted 28 shots and the guy at the gate said he'd checked in around 10 when I left at 2:00. He did say that a guy from Jasonville killed a nice 140 class 8 pt today. He said it was the nicest buck they've seen taken at the park. If I can't kill a deer in a freakin park, maybe I need to hang it up.

Not sure why they think it needs a "herd reduction."

Woke up at 4:45 this morning to a down pour. I don't think my spot is worth getting soaked for. I'll wait til later and do a little sneakin around in the rain. If I didn't have to go take my stand down anyhow, I'd probably just go back to bed.
