I just went to go fishing one afternoon in my neighbors pond. I go and cast my line in the water in a bunch of tall grass and vines and sticks. After two casts I feel a big pull thinking its a branch, but then a bass jumps out of the water and gets off. My friend and I think it was 5 pounds. I go out again a week later and cast in the same spot and the same thing happens only I got it a little closer in before it got off. What do you think I should do next time. Any tips?? I'm throwing a 2-3 inch green crank bait.

If your using a big hook set ,try a short, quick, jerk. Crankbaits have pretty small hooks, so a big hookset can rip the lure out of there mouth or just catch a little skin. that would explain it getting off when it jumped.

if you hook it on the crankbait again and it gets off, let the water calm down again and then toss a jig or carolina rigged worm to the spot and let it sink down. once it hits bottom give it a few twitches and I bet that bass hits it hard. this would also be good to try first thing instead of the crankbait. another option would be to replace one of the treble hooks on the crankbait with a normal hook. im not a big fan of trebles anyway. bad hooksets and a pain to untangle.
