Florida Crappie ‘24

Git er done! We just arrived in Dalton GA for the night. Will finish up the rest of our trip down to Sarasota tomorrow. Can hardly wait to start seeing the pictures you guys post and read your stories.

Made it down this morning. That was the craziest drive I’ve ever had weather wise. Still in single digits as I crossed into Georgia. A lot of snow in Tennessee and they obviously don’t have the means to get rid of it because there was still some on the interstate and some ramps were closed.

Cleaned the cat and Dad gave us a couple crappie he had in the box. Stopped at the fish market down the road and bought some little fiddler cats freshly caught from the river. Gail wanted some shrimp so I bought some of those too. We had a little fish fry feast! The fiddlers were excellent and I’ll be getting those again.

Got home early this morning. We brought the old pontoon boat back. We were thinking about making it a floating dock for the ponds but I might clean it up and use it at Shakamak and Greene-Sullivan this spring. I miss fishing around home!

Not the post I planned or wanted to make, but Monty and me have been in Florida since Wednesday. Dad has pneumonia and has been in the hospital for almost a week. He’s feeling better and can be released once they get his lungs drained. That’s a slow process though but hopefully he’ll be out early next week.
He convinced us that we needed to take his boat out instead of sitting in the hospital with him all day so that’s what we’ve done the past 2 mornings. Had a good morning yesterday day with 17 caught and 2 of Monty’s were over 2 pounds. Only caught 7 this morning but they were starting to bite when we left at 11. We had to leave to get Monty to the airport and visit Dad again before his flight. I’m planning on staying until Dad can get out of there.
It’s supposed to be in the 80’s this weekend so I probably won’t get out again, although I’d really like to take the yak over to the salt for sheepshead lol.
