Better late than never. I met up with Tony (opochtli) the Friday evening of the weekend the IA folks were camping in the forest. We loaded the boat and motored to a spot where I know is a heavy bedding area. Based on prior recon I knew the gills and redears were at least hanging in the shallows even though they hadn’t gone into full bedding mode. Tony caught a nice gill on his first cast. It was pretty much every cast from that point. Tony was using a jig tipped with a bee moth and I was using crickets on a gold hook. We worked over this spot (maybe a 10 x 40 foot area) for about thirty or forty fish. We moved around to a few other spots picking up a fish here and there. We went back to the first spot and caught another eight to ten fish. All in all it was a great way to spend a Friday evening. We then packed up and made our way to the forest to meet up with the group. Tony’s first gill... My last fish of the evening... A West Island double...
