Are you targeting a specific fish or just looking for whatever bites while you hone your skills? There's a guy on YouTube, Fly Fishing With Jeff, that uses a float tube to fish the pits in the GSSF, mostly Airline for trout. I would think most of the pits over there would be hard to fly fish from the bank. You'll also find that most of the creeks have a mucky bottom, so wading might be a bit difficult. Here's a link to a blog from the GCDW about fly fishing for carp... www.gcdailyworld.com/blogs/2015/entry/62981/

My buddies grandpa lived in Dugger when he was still alive and he was a die hard fly fisherman for panfish. He would just hop in his little boat and fish the perimeter of the pits with his fly. He would get his fly to land just inches from the bank and then work it out a little ways and then repeat. He also loved to work it up under overhanging limbs or bushes. That old timer caught thousands of bluegill each year.

I would think you could tear up the gills using that tactic when they are on the beds.

If you're looking for a good open spot to practice from the bank that also holds some good fish, I'd suggest the dam of Res. 26 in the forest.
