I just joined the fraternity of crossbow owners. I've been comtemplating this for a few years now and after a couple of episodes I had last year I had made up my mind that I was buying a crossbow before this season began. For the past several months I have been keeping a close eye on eBay and Craiglist looking for a deal. I had my mind set that I was getting one of the Excalibur products. I'm a big fan of their single string recurve style crossbow. I have a good friend that works on bows and he told me that Excalibur crossbows are the one crossbow that never come into the shop to be serviced. Their simplistic design allows regular users (like me) to service their own bows without the need for a bow press. I'm a huge fan of low maintenance and reliability. So, back to eBay and Craiglist...a deal finally presented itself on eBay. A guy was selling a used (only shot about 40 times) Excalibur Matrix 355 (the 355 represents feet per second speed) for $599. The problem was he only had it listed as a Matrix 355 and he didn't have Excalibur listed with it. I think this bow was getting overlooked because guys were searching by manufacturer and model instead of just model. I was the only person to bid on this, all the while, other similar excalibur crossbows were being bid on over 20 times and going for at least $200 more. This crossbow retails on Bass Pro and Cabela's for $899. I know it's used but the way I look at it I just saved $300 and I didn't even have to switch to Geico . Here's the new bow:

What a steal ! I bought my crossbow a few years ago with gift cards & points saved up at Bass pro shop. I went to BPS in portage & shot almost every brand , I had pretty much made up my mind before getting there I was going to buy an Excalibur, but after shooting everything it was my second choice . I feel in love with the Wicked Ridge after we took it out of the box & assembled it I shot 4 straight bullseyes . Congrats & you will love it !

I weighed a lot of options and checked out a lot of bows before going with the Excalibur. I like the fact that at a little under 5lbs Excalibur makes one of the lightest bows on the market. That was very important to me because I have a 10 year old son that will be shouldering this crossbow on occasion and I wanted something that wasn't too heavy for him to handle. Another thing I really like about this bow is that you do not have to fire it to uncock it. It can be uncocked by use of the cocking rope. This allows the user to not put bunch of wasted shots through their bow. The biggest seller of all to me was what my buddy (the bow guy) told me...he said he has worked on just about every "cammed" crossbow on the market at one time or another but the one bow that almost never comes into the shop is an Excalibur...and he isn't even an Excalibur dealer! That spoke volumes to me. He says that the number one reason crossbows come into his shop are because guys say that their bow won't stay sited in. Usually this is from the cams being out of sync or the string has deteriorated. He said that the biggest mistake made by guys that own crossbows with cams is that they leave their string on all year. He says that recurve style crossbows are the only ones you can do this with without creating accuracy issues. I hope I made the right decision. I feel like I have but we will see once I get it in my hands.
