I've never fished there so I stopped by there today on my way back from work. Man, what a beautiful place! Makes you feel so far from home (I live 20 minutes away). Anyway... It appears that Island is still accessible from the path to Teal lake, even though there is no actual boat ramp. I could easily drag my yak down there. I noticed the water was a light blue color... has it always been that way?
I also stopped by Shop Lake. Saw a couple folks fishing from their kayaks. Is this a new addition to Minnehaha? My older map doesn't show Shop as public property, but my new one does. Has anyone been there? What's the fishing like?

I can't answer any of those questions, but just checked out Shop lake on the map. It's an interesting looking pit. Might have to try it one of these days.

That might be a question for the DNR? I noticed too that a small part of the pit was on public ground, but I don't know if you'd be trespassing out on the pit? I'd never heard of Shop Lake.

Shop Lake is new to me. I've never heard of it. Can you post a map on here showing where it is? This lake may possibly go by a different name as well. One thing I've learned about those pits over the years is that some of them have multiple names.

I also stopped by Shop Lake. Saw a couple folks fishing from their kayaks. Is this a new addition to Minnehaha? I would highly doubt that this is a new addition. The state has slowly been losing ground in Minnehaha over the past 10 years. If they all of sudden started adding ground there I would be shocked. The state hasn't showed any interest in Minnehaha for many years. As I've said in other threads, we are slowly losing a gem of a property. I'd be surprised if Minnehaha exists 10-20 years from now. However, if the state did just add this lake to the property then this could be a positive sign to the future of Minnehaha. I hope it is a new addition because that would give me hope that the state is trying to revive that property.

Tony - that is the most recent map I have. After comparing the two maps, it is disappointing to see how much ground the state has lost. Somewhere I have a map from about 15 years ago and if you compared that with what we have now you'd really be disappointed. Back then there was a lot more ground leased at the north end of Minnehaha. Mohawk, Goose and Loon were a few of the lakes that were part of it back then. Mohawk and Loon were ridiculously deep but, although I never had the opportunity to fish them, I heard they were great fisheries. With all that being said, it is nice to see that they have added the area around and including Shop Lake. It makes me optimistic that maybe they will try to revive Minnehaha. Or better yet, maybe they will eventually buy all that ground

Troy, I may have a reason to come down soon. I'm itching to try out this "new" pit before the public hammers it.
