I let Blitz off his lead today and he took off like he'd been shot from a canon. Figured he was gone for good, but he come running back and all it would take to have him at my side was a soft whistle. I read one time that the most important training for a gun dog is obedience, that the hunting comes natural, and he seems to already have a good grasp of that.

I was curious how Blitz is doing? Welcome to the Braggin' Board! I was just getting ready to let him out to run some of that energy off, he's doing great. I've had him out every day that I'm off work since he's been here. I haven't found any live birds to work him on yet, think I'm gonna convert my old chicken coop to accommodate chukar and purchase some this spring. Would you happen to be the previous owner?

Finally got some birds to work Blitz on. Bought 20 coturnix/Japanese quail off a guy from Gosport. I'm happy to report that Blitz is "bird crazy!" Put 3 birds out today and Blitz found all of them. Unfortunately these birds aren't flight conditioned so he also caught all 3 birds. Bird 1 Bird 2 - With Blitz's shy personality I've been a little worried about him being gun shy, so with this bird I had Chase stand a ways off and shoot a .410 when the bird got up. The dog didn't even flinch so that's a very good sign. Bird 3 - I thought this was his most impressive point. I had planted the bird in the fence row, but it had wondered out into the open field. You can see the quail to left of Blitz's nose and he was froze and held point until I come up and flushed the bird. These quail are about a week from being full grown, so I'm gonna wait another week and maybe get a flight pen set up so I can make the scenarios more like we'll find in the wild. So far, so good!

Blitz is still doing good. I had a bird get away today and I thought it was in the yard, but Blitz found it across the road in the ditch.
