Headed to Greene Sullivan State Forest Monday after work for the yak's maiden voyage. Got on the water at about 5PM in search of gills and crappie. My first fish boated on the kayak was a dink gill, but it was nice to get some slime on it. Caught a few more dinks on red-worms about 12ft down. My biggest gill actually came on my crappie jig that was bouncing the bottom directly below the boat. I got up a little late Tuesday morning, but I think I managed to get on the water by 8:30. The weather was nicer than what was forecast. I explored more of the lake. I thought I had a bead on the red ears for a minute, but after two, one after the other, the bite stopped. Couldn't get anymore after that. This trip was more about the kayak than the fish. My initial thoughts on the new ride were: a. It's big and heavy. Trying to man handle it is like wrestling a greased pig. Just confirmed my plan to build a kayak cart. b. The seat is comfortable. I had no problems with my back whatsoever. c. The storage compartment in the middle of the boat opens into the hull of the boat. There are foam blocks that prevent stuff from sliding forwards and backwards, but not side to side. I could not reach some things in that compartment from my seat. I will need to drop a box in that compartment to make it accessible. d. I need one more rod holder in front of me, in addition to the one it came with. e. I can't wait until next spring to get it on more water.

Good to see you were able to get some fish in the boat on your maiden yak voyage.

Thanks for the report and review! I'm glad someone else around here has a yak now, the main thing I haven't liked about yak fishing is fishing alone.
