I haven't drove down the county road side yet but the highway entrance is not blocked off. I didn't drive back to the building to see if anything was posted either. I was going to but was feeling too miserable after the lunch I had today. If I get out tomorrow I'll check. I don't think it matters if it's blocked off or not. The closed to all public access warning makes things pretty clear.

Thought about that too. I can also see the state making money from this by ticketing people who are fishing/trespassing on the property while it is closed. I've heard too many horror stories about people that have trespassed on Peabody ground and things are not taken lightly. I'm wondering if they'll even post it? Probably not.

As far as I can tell there is nothing posted at the entrance from 54. I also noticed that the brown, road sign pointing to the property was still up as you are heading west.

Maybe the state will purchase some more ground around Hillenbrand. I hear the parcel along 59 north east of the Lebannon church is for sale and where the Miller coal washer plant between cr900n and cr800n might bee up for sale.I heard they were leasing the Miller tippel property but the lease is up on it.

Yeah, we've been discussing the Peabody land for sale for a while now in a couple different threads. It doesn't sound like the state will be buying any of it though. bellbucksnbeards.proboards.com/thread/4372/play-lotterybellbucksnbeards.proboards.com/thread/4341/big-news

I would be stunned if the state bought it. I think it is highly doubtful but if they do I am heading down ASAP to be one of the first guys to fish those spots!

The sad part is that those pits NEED fished. I "might" have wandered on to a couple of those pits last summer and the fish seemed stunted. One particular pit that I used to fish(along with everyone else) years ago always had monster bluegills, but now it's full of dinks.

I have got lost a couple of times and accidently wandered over there myself. I always wear my face net because there are trail cameras up. Usually no one around this time of year, after deer season. I think it is hunters responsibility to make sure there are no illegal activity going on. Marajuana grows or meth labs. Just doing my part as a law abiding citizen.

Well, that just stinks. They close the one area there that has been upgraded with a concrete ramp, etc? And what the heck is "wetland mitigation?" Sounds like Peabody found a way to get some fed money to me. Hopefully they'll stock Airline with more trout or find another local pit to stock next spring. I work with an environment firm that does wetland mitigation for mostly private developers. At least in my experience, the developers are ordered to mitigate for ground they are developing in existing wetland or floodway fringe areas (so they pay for it all). So, they pay around $15k/acre to buy easements from private land owners to reclaim their floodway or wetland areas that are usually in crops (this area could be anywhere suitable). Then, the environmental firm does plantings and some minor excavation usually. I write the easements and do the staking for the extents of the mitigation area. I have one client (the private land owner) that has made a ton of money of his crop field next to a creek in the floodway. The areas are supposed to be maintained, but most of the stuff planted usually dies and the entire area ends up being second growth.

Heading home from the in-law's yesterday I noticed that someone had spruced up the old entrance to Minnehaha off of 54. Looked like they had put up a new gate/beefed up the old one. It also looked like there were a couple of vehicles parked at the old FWA office.

Wonder if they bought it all or parted it?
