The Colts are 2-1 with Richardson including a very impressive win over the Niners. So, I don't see your point. I am pretty sure the Browns being 3-0 has less to do with Richardson being gone as it does with Josh Gordon returning and the emergence of Brian Hoyer...although that looks like it could be over with for a while. I think Weeden taking longer to throw a pass than any other QB (on average) in football was what was killing you guys. Weeden did a much better job of relieving Hoyer last night as for as getting rid of the ball quicker. Maybe he learned a little something off Hoyer??

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that not having Richardson is the only reason we are winning now. Hoyer had a ton to do with that, but our offense also runs a lot differently without Richardson. It's been pretty noticeable. We couldn't even have him on the field on third downs because he just doesn't get the job done in those type of situations. He's very frustrating to watch. Holes seem to slam shut on him and he doesn't have the burst to run past people out in space.
We have 32 year old Willis McGahee coming off no training camp and he is performing better than Richardson did while here. That is a direct comparison to Trent because we are running the same offense.
It definitely would have been interesting to see if he would have been a little better with Gordon and Hoyer on the field at the same time. I doubt it though. He is averaging about the same YPC with the Colts and they are the better team right now. I watched a lot of the Colts-Seahawks game today to see how Richardson looked and you can't tell me that he looked like an explosive NFL back that other teams game plan around and fear.
Linebackers in the NFL are way faster, bigger, and stronger except all but the best in college. Look at that National Champsionship game Trent played in against LSU. He wasn't any good. We supported him in Cleveland because he was a high draft pick and one of the stars of our team. Now that he is gone we can really see how ordinary he really his. He used to say here that he wants to be the best RB in NFL history. Well keep dreaming Trent.
BTW that was a great comeback by the Colts. They made adjustments and beat a good team. Luck is going to have one hell of a career there. I wish the Browns could have drafted him over Richardson in the first place.

Smart teams do rely on the draft as a way to build their team.
Look at Green Bay's roster. You won't see many free agents listed.

Me too! Reminds me of a modern day Major League!(If you've never seen the movie....watch it!!) The main thing that would concern me if I was a Browns fan is that they've tried the 2 first round picks thing before....less than 2 years ago. Richardson 3rd & Weeden 22nd in 2012.

That's the problem with drafting in the first round. Teams have to pay big money for these kids who are unproven at the pro level. That's why many teams will trade out of the first round to get someone who will help them today. And, many times they don't have to pay first round money for the people they get. Belichick has thrived on this philosophy.

The new rookie wage scale means that there are no more huge contracts for even the highest draft picks. Take Sam Bradford and Cam Newtown for example. Bradford received a 6 year deal for 78 million and Newton got a 4 year deal for 22 million. The main problem with the Browns is that they have gone through so many coaches, offensive schemes, defensive schemes, and front office personnel that they can never sustain what they are trying to build. So the new regimes come in, clean house, try to get guys that fit what they want to do and then draft the players they like. I like all the moves this front office has made so far. All we can do is wait and see what happens, but I don't think losing Richardson set as back at all.
